Four ways to earn the descent
Freeride
Use the lifts for height and descend untouched terrain, with Ordino Arcalís as the main base. Its north face holds snow exceptionally well and hosts Freeride World Tour terrain. Guided half or full days are matched to your stamina.
Ski touring
Climb on skins through quiet high valleys, from introductory routes beside the ski areas to spring classics at altitude. The guide chooses the route after reading ability, weather and avalanche conditions.
Splitboarding
The board separates for the skin track and reconnects for the descent. Specialist hire equipment and guides familiar with both touring disciplines are available.
Skimo
For uphill training and racing pace. Andorra has marked resort routes and a deep ski-mountaineering culture; we can build the logistics around a training stay.
Safety is not an extra
Preparation separates a great backcountry day from an unnecessary risk. We always include:
- A UIAGM guide for every off-piste outing to interpret terrain, snowpack and avalanche bulletins
- A complete safety pack—transceiver, shovel and probe—and a briefing before departure
- Insurance explicitly covering freeride or touring and mountain rescue
- Routes selected on the day according to weather and snow
- Small, ability-matched groups so nobody is overextended or held back

1. Where can I freeride in Andorra?
Ordino Arcalís is the main reference, with north-facing terrain, preserved snow and Freeride World Tour venues. Grandvalira and Pal Arinsal also offer good options after snowfall. The guide chooses according to current conditions.
2. Do I need to be an expert?
For introductory freeride, you should comfortably ski red pistes. Introductory touring needs hiking fitness and a willingness to learn. We match the route and group to your actual level.
3. What equipment do I need?
Touring skis with skins and ski crampons, splitboards, boots and transceiver-shovel-probe kits can all be hired in Andorra and prepared before your outing.
4. Is off-piste skiing dangerous?
It carries genuine risks, including avalanches and uncontrolled terrain. Qualified guiding, daily bulletins, safety equipment and condition-led route choice manage those risks responsibly.
5. Does normal ski insurance cover freeride?
Only if the policy explicitly says so. Many piste policies exclude off-piste skiing. We add suitable freeride or touring cover, including mountain rescue, when the itinerary requires it.
6. When is the best season?
Freeride is often strongest after January and February storms; touring generally comes into its own from February to April as the snowpack settles and days lengthen.
