Andorra in summer

Summer is Andorra's best-kept secret. When the snow melts it reveals more than 70 high-mountain lakes, 60 marked routes and three natural parks, including a UNESCO World Heritage valley, in a country where 90% of the land is forest and mountain. The ski areas do not close: they become adventure parks.

This is not an inventory but our practical selection for June to September, with links to each detailed experience.

Hiking and lakes

This is the heart of an Andorran summer, from accessible half-days to multi-stage routes:

GRP: around the country

A seven-stage circuit linking mountain refuges. Walk it all or combine two stages with one staffed-refuge night for a manageable introduction.

Coronallacs

A five-stage high-lake traverse connecting Andorra's four staffed refuges. Peak-season beds should be reserved months ahead.

Classic half-days

Tristaina's three lakes, Pessons cirque, Incles valley and Sorteny Natural Park deliver strong scenery without committing to a full traverse.

Madriu-Perafita-Claror

The Pyrenees' only UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape: a roadless valley of stone shelters, mountain paths and genuine quiet.

Comapedrosa

Andorra's 2,942-metre summit is demanding but possible as a long day from Arinsal. Start early and use a guide if the group lacks mountain experience.

On two wheels

Andorra has around 600 km of MTB and e-bike routes across forest tracks, trails and bike parks. E-bikes help mixed-ability groups ride together, while road cyclists can tackle famous Vuelta climbs on well-maintained roads. Mountain, road and electric bikes are available to hire, with workshops and bike-friendly hotels.

Vertical adventures

  • 16 equipped via ferratas, from introductory routes to K4 and K5 challenges
  • More than 200 sport-climbing routes and indoor walls for stormy days
  • Five guided canyoning descents for a refreshing summer afternoon
  • Zip lines and rope courses in the mountain parks

We arrange vertical activities with qualified guides and included equipment. The right professional changes the experience completely.

Unexpected Andorra experiences

High-altitude golf

A course above 2,000 metres where the mountain setting makes the round genuinely unusual.

Horse riding

From one-hour Naturland rides to half-day forest outings, particularly good with teenagers.

Mountain fishing

Trout in high lakes and rivers with a day permit arranged alongside the trip.

Trail running

Race or train on routes used by events such as Trail 100 Andorra and the Comapedrosa Mountain Festival.

With children and after the mountain

Family summer highlights include Naturkids at Naturland, Canillo's Mon(t) Magic, Pal Arinsal's Kids Bike Park and gentle lake walks in Incles or Tristaina.

When the mountain day ends, choose Caldea, a borda from our food guide, an Andorran cultural route or an afternoon of shopping.

Frequently asked questions

The answer may already be here. If not, message us—we are local.

1. When is summer season and what is the weather like?

June to September, with roughly 15–28°C by day depending on altitude and cool nights. Carry a warm layer even in August.

2. Is Andorra worth visiting in summer?

Yes. More than 70 lakes, 60 marked routes, active mountain parks and lower accommodation prices make summer one of its strongest seasons.

3. Do the ski areas open in summer?

Yes, as activity parks: Mon(t) Magic in Canillo, Pal Arinsal Bike Park, Tristaina access from Ordino Arcalís and full Naturland operation.

4. Can I swim in the lakes?

Swimming is possible in many places, but the glacial water remains very cold. Respect local signs and protect these fragile environments.

5. Can I travel around without a car?

Interurban buses connect the parishes and gondolas reach several mountain areas. We arrange custom transfers and pick-ups for routes with fixed timings.

6. What should I bring for hiking?

Mountain footwear, layers, high-factor sun protection, water and a warm layer for summits. Inexperienced groups and families benefit from a guide.
